How to Add and Manage Multiple eSIMs on Your Phone
Modern smartphones let you add multiple eSIMs and store them side by side, so you can land in Tokyo, Lisbon or Dubai and switch to local data in seconds instead of hunting for a SIM card shop.
This guide shows you how to add multiple eSIMs on iPhone and Android, how many your phone can store, how to switch between them and how to delete the ones you no longer need. If this is your very first eSIM, start with our guide on how to set up your eSIM.
Why Add Multiple eSIMs to One Phone?
Storing more than one eSIM gives you flexibility without extra hardware.
Separate Personal and Travel Data
Keep your everyday line for home and a separate eSIM for travel data. Usage stays easy to track, and you always know which plan you're spending.
Keep Multiple Destinations Ready to Go
Visiting several countries? Install an eSIM for each stop before you leave, then switch as you cross borders.
Keep Your Primary SIM Active While Using a Data eSIM
Your primary SIM can stay on for calls and SMS, including bank verification codes, while a travel eSIM handles mobile data.
💡 Tip: With Enjoy eSIM, your data can be ready before you even land. Browse eSIM-compatible destinations in 190+ countries and install your next plan while you're still at home.
How Many eSIMs Can Your Phone Store?
Short answer: Most iPhones can store eight or more eSIMs, while Android limits vary by brand and model. In most cases, only two lines can be active at the same time, so you can store many plans but use one or two at once.
eSIM Storage Limits on iPhone
Every iPhone from the XS and XR onward supports eSIM and can store eight or more eSIM profiles, and iPhone 13 and later can keep two eSIMs active at the same time.
eSIM Storage Limits on Android
There's no single limit on Android. Samsung Galaxy, Google Pixel and other brands each set their own, and many store several profiles. Check your model on our supported devices page, and look in your SIM settings for the exact number.
Active vs Stored eSIM Profiles
| Type | What it means | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Stored | Installed on your phone but switched off | Japan and Italy plans waiting for your trip |
| Active | Switched on and connected to a network | Home line for calls, travel eSIM for data |
Can You Have 2 eSIMs and 1 Physical SIM?
Yes, on phones that support dual eSIM and also have a SIM tray. You can keep all three installed, but usually only two lines can be active at once. For a full explanation, read how to use dual SIM with an eSIM.
How to Add a New eSIM on iPhone
Connect to Wi-Fi first, and keep your eSIM QR code on another screen or printed out.
1. Go to Settings and Add a Cellular Plan
Open Settings > Cellular (Mobile Service in some regions) and tap Add eSIM.
2. Scan or Enter the eSIM QR Code
Choose Use QR Code and scan the code from your Enjoy eSIM email. If the camera won't read it, tap Enter Details Manually and type in the SM-DP+ address and activation code.
3. Label the New eSIM
Give the line a clear name, such as Japan or Travel. Labels make switching much faster once you have several plans.
4. Choose Which Line Is Active
Set your primary line for calls and texts, and pick the new eSIM for Cellular Data. When you arrive, turn on Data Roaming for the travel eSIM only.
How to Add a New eSIM on Android
Menu names differ by brand, but the steps are the same.
1. Open SIM Manager or Network Settings
On Samsung, go to Settings > Connections > SIM manager. On Google Pixel, open Settings > Network & internet > SIMs.
2. Add an eSIM via QR Code or Manual Entry
Tap Add eSIM (or Add SIM on Pixel) and scan the QR code. Most phones also offer a manual option. If scanning fails, see our fixes for when an eSIM QR code is not working.
3. Label and Activate the New eSIM
Tap the new eSIM to rename it, switch it on and set it as your mobile data line. Enable roaming for this eSIM when you reach your destination.
How to Switch Between Multiple eSIMs
Switching Your Data Line
On iPhone, go to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data and pick the eSIM you want. On Samsung, open SIM manager > Mobile data; on Pixel, open SIMs and choose the line for data. Keep automatic data switching off so your phone doesn't fall back to your home line.
Keeping Calls and SMS on Your Primary SIM
Leave your primary line switched on as the default for calls and messages, but keep its mobile data and data roaming off.
Turning an Unused eSIM Off Without Deleting It
Finished with a country but planning to return? Turn the line off instead of deleting it. On iPhone, tap the line and switch off Turn On This Line; on Android, toggle the eSIM off. It stays stored and ready while the plan is still valid.

Can You Transfer an eSIM Between Phones?
Why eSIM QR Codes Are Single-Use
A QR code downloads one eSIM profile to one device. Once it's installed, most providers won't let the same code install it again.
What to Do If You're Switching to a New Phone
Some home carriers support eSIM transfer when you set up a new phone. Travel eSIMs usually need a fresh installation instead. Don't delete the eSIM from your old phone first: contact Enjoy eSIM support with your order details and we'll help you move it.
How to Delete an eSIM You No Longer Need
Only remove an eSIM when its plan has expired or you're sure you won't need it.
Deleting an eSIM on iPhone
Go to Settings > Cellular, tap the line you want to remove, then tap Delete eSIM and confirm.
Deleting an eSIM on Android
On Samsung, open SIM manager, tap the eSIM and choose Remove. On Pixel, open SIMs, select the eSIM and tap Erase eSIM.
What Happens to Your Data Plan After Deletion
Deleting the profile doesn't pause or refund the plan. Any remaining data is usually lost, and the same QR code can't reinstall it. If there's data left, contact our 24/7 support team before you delete anything.
Common Problems When Managing Multiple eSIMs
Phone Shows "Maximum Number of eSIMs Reached"
Your phone's storage is full. Delete an eSIM whose plan has expired, then try installing the new one again.
Wrong eSIM Selected for Mobile Data
Check which line is set for mobile data. Select the travel eSIM and make sure data roaming is on for that line only.
One eSIM Stops Working After Adding Another
Adding a new eSIM can change your default lines. Check that the original eSIM is still switched on, confirm your data and calling lines, and restart your phone so it registers on the network again.
